TRACKS FROM LIVE AT THE FILLMORE WEST 1971

We are honored and very proud to add this page named for the best band that ever came out of Connecticut and the Northeast.

Their name is Burgundy Sunset. They were all very talented, played to SRO crowds and were the pride of all of us who were growing up at the time in the early 1960’s forward. They played everywhere, including the Towers Hall in Lake George. They became the House Band there in the Summer of 1966 playing seven nights a week all Summer. They were so popular and became so well known that they were sought after by Clubs and Concert Halls everywhere along the East Coast. They even played for Frank Sinatra down in Miami at the Fountainbleau in 1973. As they gained fame, they went West and were invited to play at Famous Fillmore West with the possibility of getting a recording contract. Along with all their success and praises, the Band, as is often the case, was unfortunately and tragically, star crossed. After playing at the Fillmore West in San Francisco on January 14th, 1971, they left there, heading up to San Raphael. On the night of January 17th, 1971, their van was hit head on by another vehicle trying to elude the Police and traveling at 80 mph. The result was two fatalities and very severe injuries.
Their path to fame was sadly and forever altered. So much was lost on a dark two lane highway in a terrible and horrific way.
On this page, we are seeking to let you know what had happened to Burgundy Sunset. We will be adding more awesome music, information and pictures as we receive them.
